Bang Bang Let’s play Range is going “Hot”! “Shooter, load and make ready!” The pressure is heady Ready stance Take the chance Run it fast Yet take your time Bang Bang Drop to your knees You’ve gotta see What it is You are aiming for Bang Bang Tan is the bad man Whatch out for the white He’s the civilian And you shouldn't kill him Bang Bang Seconds are ticking Trigger is clicking Mandatory reload Make sure your mag’s full Bang Bang Run from box to box Feel the beat of the clock Angle round Target found Bang Bang If you’re finished, Unload and show clear Hammer down Holster – clean round Feel the rush That was down right fun! Come on R O Let’s do another run! s.a.t. Susan You have the courage to raise issues. I also went through the drill although we counted the shells, and rifled the barrel of an automatic handgun 3 times after shooting at targets. I dont hit a neighbour even though I feel like it, but had the Royal Navy told me to go into a Dock on strike in London and open fire, I can not say I would not have obeyed the instruction. I can think it now because I was never required to do more than shoot at targets. I understand your words, your meanings and how you feel. dave |

Ah Dave - don't know if it is courage or just misguided enthusiasm - I've mixed views on the gun issue - mostly I believe it is people who need the reform and not guns - But as a sport - it is down right fun - and it is also, I think, of benefit to understand the martial arts- And like you - have never had to shoot at anything but targets - Thanks for the read - Susan Every action generates a force that returns to us in like kind . . . let us choose compassion and love |

I love this! You nailed the peripatetic nature of an IPSC match. Well done. Shooting is one of the few relaxing sports left to me, though I have gotten too old to clear the Quantico course (body just won't bend the way I need it to bend). I also learned my 10mm Delta was scaring the younguns. Clays and black powder are more my speed now, both disciplines are better suited to my pace and both crowds are very relaxed people. Thank you for this enjoyable read. |

I like the concept of IDPA better than the current state of IPSC. The idea of "dance with the one you carry" just makes a lot of sense to me....but, I still am too old to go jumping up and down and running around. I do sometimes shoot steel matches, but they are more sedate. Black powder is just a slower pace. My current choice is a 17th century Tulle Fusee, .62 caliber smoothbore flintlock. Not exactly a space gun. *grin* It gives reality to the concept of "flash in the pan." |

Thanks Froggy - my brothers had pellet guns growing up, I'd shoot them too - my brother Mike is the one who first got me into target shooting, now my husband and I do matches - Icebox - IDPA is fun - though I rather enjoy the race factor in IPSC - my Arnis teacher also teaches defensive hand gun techniques using some unique maneuvers - we play with the soft pellet guns - amazing what can be done - uses angles of arnis too - Would love someday to go to a black powder match - would also love to see some real wheel gun masters playing the western SusanEvery action generates a force that returns to us in like kind . . . let us choose compassion and love |

loved this! I shoot guns and as you said here, " And like you - have never had to shoot at anything but targets -" but isn't it good to know that if you were put in a situation where you had to, you could defend yourself or possibly a loved one. But shooting for sport is really a blast. |

Ah SEA - my kind of Gal - and yes, it is good to know that I can use a weapon in defense - some ladies at work say their husbands have guns in the house for self defense yet they don't know the first thing about them - talk about dangerous! But soon I'll rectify that - they'll be having a lady's night at the range and I am going to do some persuasion - don't need to be hearing about some accidents happening from ignorance Here's to fun on the range  Susan Every action generates a force that returns to us in like kind . . . let us choose compassion and love |

 I'm glad to hear you will take them for a ladies night! I bet it will be a great time. More women should know how to handle a weapon, and to feel comfortable handling one. Not all freaked out and yes, ignorant. I've been going shooting since I was little with my dad, and Jon and i get out and go shooting when we can. We take our kids too and you should see how good my girls can shoot!! My son is pretty good too, but the girls are really good. |

Strange how I get even scared reading this. When you are brought up in a country that outlaws guns except for hunting season and then they are really watched carefully it's downright a scary thought. When I was in Texas a few years ago I was shocked as I had never seen anyone carrying a gun before except a police officer or a mounted police and I freaked. Susan, I love your comment that you believe in "people reform" - me too! I guess if you are allowed to have a gun, then I would sure agree to learn to shoot it well. Babble, babble LOL. Mysteria - I respect the discomfort those who have not been brought up around guns feel- I felt the same way the first time I handled a live blade. Talk about scary - eeek. Sometimes I still look at them and think eeeew - someone could get hurt. Thing is, unfortunately, people will find whatever they can to harm another - and the bad guys, they will always have access to illegal fire arms, after all, they operate illegally - a lot of my training is also along the lines of what to do when an assailant is armed and you are not - but I believe understanding is important with regards to all things that can harm, for how else then can you be prepared and mount a reasonable defense? For me though, am not paranoid, just prepared. And love to target play, whether with guns, arrows, or darts - put a black dot down range and I just gotta send a projectile hurdeling towards it Freaky about the #13 - ooooooooh - now that's scary  Hugs - Susan Every action generates a force that returns to us in like kind . . . let us choose compassion and love |

My best friend just bought A Beretta Storm and I went out shooting with it last weekend. So awesome, I'm in love with it. Going again this weekend to do some .22 plinking up in the mountains. I agree with the other things said in this thread. It bothers me so much when people have a gun and are afraid of it and untrained. Even more then that it bothers me when they have a gun and don't educate their children but tell them to stay away from the gun. Kids should know what a gun is and how to use it so that they don't discover how it works by being curious and sneak it... then harm someone. Anyway, I could go on for hours. Loved the write. I am a single mom of 2 and no I don't own a gun and yes I was raised with a father who had guns everywhere in the house and my dad, uncles and cousins used to go up to northern cal and hunt. So which leads to my next question......So if a woman doesn't know how to shoot a gun or doesn't have one, they are ignorant????? |

nooooo it's more if they have one in their home( or the hubby does) and choose to not learn how to shoot, or when they act like guns are mysterious but choose not to learn. Not having one in no way makes you ignorant. My sister in law grew up around guns, knows how to use them, and chooses to not have them in her home. That doesn't make her stupid to me. It's her choice. |

ok... so I built this 58 cal punkin ball launcher and on the 4th of july we'd drink some jack and launch the mexican bottle rockets from ol bessie with about 150 grains of smokless under the patch' won't tell you about the thompson that goes fast..shhhhhhhh |

Thanks SEA - you answered Cloud 9's question beautifully - I respect every body's right to choose their choice and appreciate them respecting my right to make my choice - and SEA states my mind exactly - if there is a gun in your home and you invision yourself having the possibility of one day needing to use it, then you should know how to use it - that is what I meant - I do believe all women should know the basics of self defense, however, whether it be empty hand, using expedient weapons, or learning the skill of martial weapons - whatever the choice - she should at least have some ideas of what to do if ever accosted - my family has been touched by the evil that walks the street - it is a very bad, bad thing - Thanks Linda for your cheerful heart - and your sweet compliment - D- a Thompson? Wowser - what about a howetzer (sp)? For me, I'd love to have a M1A1 parked in my back yard - strictly for the awsome rides of course - fire power has nothing to do with it, unless of course it is a really BIG piece of paper target down range say a few hundred yards - hehe Hugs all - and thanks for all the dialog - as I've said before, discussion is good Susan Every action generates a force that returns to us in like kind . . . let us choose compassion and love |
