Listening to every heart

In All Written Languages

These slipstreaming lines
archaic now, but never so archaic
that someone cannot read them,

they visited me last night,
fled into my dream
and harbored within, among
the warm.

I saw their lovely shapes again,
curves and lines and back askance slash
all black against white
struck just so, Gregg would have been pleased, and

they danced around me, slipped,
were they, the loss
of a letter or two,
still, their meaning so clear

but so frenetic their dance,
so joyful in step
to read the meaning of their
appearance almost

almost

escaped me…

I saw then a dot closely over
the smallest o

then a great curve like the hump
of an elephant, widely over
then back around a larger O
then swerving down and back,
like a scimitar’s curve
in its hilt.

                        He Gave

I have changed my last name
three times since I left my past
but still, just as if I had carved
those words then,
I would find them even now, in some
rock caved wall
or on some granite stone
in a graveyard too near

and the dream stays close
that no one lives forever, and in some way
all have given to some degree,

but none like Him.

No, none like Him.

I have seen Gregg referred to as "pothooks" in some forgotten potboiler.  Those swirls are now gone, but indeed, not Him.  Well done!  Ken
