I am not She

the She you wanted me to be

I wanted to see Her reflection

in my mirror

but when I look upon myself

it is not She that I see

but merely me

and in that --

let me be content

It doesn't alter anyone's desires because we all fight not to be anyone and always we dream to be ourselves.

Ignoring, I trust, the male slant to these words.

"If you can dream and not make dreams your master, if you can think and not make thoughts your aim, if you can meet with triumph and disaster, and treat those two imposters, just the same" - If - Rudyard Kipling.

The key is to not speak a name at some moment, when it is inappropriate.

Brilliant lovely words and it made me think before commenting.

The definition of yourself is you...It sounds as if you have been trying to be everything to all people and forgot about the you..

This is what this confessional says to me, and that things are going to change pretty quick...

Often,  the "she" is his mother.  Or some
past flame that tickles his fancy...  And
one can never be other than just who they
are..and if that is acceptable...it is grand,
and if not....so be it...  Personally,
I think you are quite acceptable as who you
are...

In my past, this could have certainly been me......
but, I'm so lucky to have found my Love, who
loves me because I am "ME". It feels so good, too.

so what's wrong with what you do see ma'am...

it all looks fine to me from where I sit... and if we were meant to be someone else.... well.. guess we would have been them instead of who we are...

Some people become camileon (sp) like because they learn hard lessons when very young that they are not acceptable as is and are very tender hearted - so in self preservation, they learn to become what others want.  I've tried hard to overcome that tendency in the past years, but am still a work in progress.  I think perhaps I lost myself some long time ago and don't really know who sets at the heart of me - does this make sense?

In my exploration - I have found parts of me that are exciting and fun and great - but they do not make the whole of me - even if that is how others would like it to be - me too

this is the essence of this poem - a lost soul wandering, searching

Perhaps I bare too much - ah well -

Susan - finding ourselves again after being lost is a long hard battle and then the trick is for us to accept what we find.  As long as we take a long hard look at ourselves through our own eyes we'll be alright.  I enjoyed your words and can indeed relate to them.

"perhaps I bare my soul to much"

Yanno Susan, this reminds me of some words to one of my favorite songs By Travis Tritt/John Mellencamp:

I'm not afraid to say what's on my mind
To take a stand, to draw the line
To speak my heart and bare my soul
I don't like lies, I'd rather know the truth
So what say you?
What say you?

Susan

It is a second reply.

You have the courage to find you but your talent is another challenge and finding yourself still leaves you to stay as yourself but move up an echelon and still remain yourself.

I dont often reply to a poem once but your words resonate and I reply three times because I understand I suppose.

Tiredness was written after 8 years non-stop always taking the worst because I enjoyed it until I needed to stop, so I did another couple of years until I couldn't even travel.

Take care

Dave

When tiredness is your master
The world becomes your soul
When anger is your mistress
And you a bad *******

When talk is with yourself
But shouldn't ever be
When nothing is the matter
But you can't let the world go free

When you sleep because you must
But sick of your life - a waste
Why should you sleep for want?
Why is there so much haste?

You are supposed to be grateful
That you are in demand
And loudmouths with loud braces
Think the world is their behind

But still the tiger drags
You kissing up its tail
Until you hit the tree
Forget your thoughts - prevail

Find the inner sense
Balance with the void
Find the peace you know how to get
Avoid this senseless noise
