To Mom-in-Laws (for a friend)

We don’t know if we’ll like her, this woman of our life.
She has the power to crush us and multiply our strife.
She watches us with spouse, so able to speak her mind.
But also she can win us if we know that she is kind.

I knew a certain lady who was bent and gray with years.
I’d long come to respect her while she offered me her cares.
She’d made us loans to buy a car and once to buy a home.
I wasn’t always pleasant but she seemed to like me some.

I really didn’t know how my split with spouse would matter.
But I found with her it was still the same as smiles she would scatter.
She’s now been gone some years, I guess, and find I miss her still
Her mind was keen as anyone’s; I guess I always will.

These women give to us the child they love no end,
And try so hard to offer us a place where we can spend
Our time and feel welcome; now who could as for more.
With mine I found great wisdom, she really knew the score.

So if you find the one you have clasped close within your heart,
And watch with sadness as the signs of decay start,
Give thanks for what she’s given you, that mate whose life you share.
And all the love she shows to you, a child within her care.

I think when one becomes a mother or father-in-law, their whole perspective changes as a parent...

I find that the in-laws that open themselves up to their child's mate, is normally doubly blessed...

I know my in-laws were, and have been open, thus giving me more than I could hope to receive...

and I hope I have given them that much back...

and as an in-law now?  I do hope I learned my lessons well...

your friend is blessed in having a friend like you...

Ken

That's why I call mine my "mother-in-love"!

You can't get any better with mine. She has always been there for me through the worst and best times with my husband. During the rough times she has taken me under her wing and understood me and during the best times, she supports me and I can share anything with her.

What a wonderful gift this poem is for that person. An original Tender Heart bear, that's you.

Ed goes exploring, finds Kayjay gold.....this that you speak of...very much so. I miss mine so much sometimes that I get misty thinking about her. Stereotypes are made by the loud...reality is made by the good.

This was a beautiful write, Ken!     Hopefully, one day I will get to experience this kind of love and friendship from my future in-laws.  [God willing I find a husband...LOL. ]

And Martie...I LOVED the comment about the "mother-in-love"...that is sweet!!

Hugs,

Becka
