She follows in the footsteps of shadowy recalls
out into the fields of waterfalls and trees
bending, stretching, opening, absorbing the feel,
into every thread of her present form.

She reclines in the luxury of silent memories
her book of many dreams open at her side
calling her to read the puzzling lines and signs
written in the chapter explaining destiny.

Breaking down the words into syllables of fantasy
she turns to face at last the reality of life
rising like a demon to bite at her desire
and swallow the last vestiges of her sanity.

And he bites repeatedly, spits out the bones,
then crushes them to pulp in a vice of retribution
simply for the pleasure of ensuring dissolution
of the sensitive and tender imbedded in her soul.

But it’s there forever more no matter what befalls
enabling her to feel how weak her trembling knees
and how soundlessly her cry matures into a scream
in the final stages of her walk into withdrawal.

Bleeding to the floor every day a drop of hope
she staggers to the door intent on seeing more
but she opens it again to a cold and rainy morn
swirling round her heart like a tightly knotted rope.

She tries again to breathe the air of all her dreams
but suffocates instead her will to live, to be!

Oh, Helen, how this reaches out!  It embraces some very deep memories and recalls my own battles.  The heroine of this story is someone I can identify with very much.  She is a heroine, we must remember.  Love to you and I hope your holidays are bright.   ....jo
