To Mourn

to mourn
is to more than miss
it is a renting of the heart
a scratching of the soul
a rendering of tears
a portion of whole

a severing of hours
a scattering of petals
along a path that once held tranquility
and now holds an affliction
that gnaws
and claws within the marrow
of we who remain

it is a stain
that strives to become
an image of commemoration,
an exhalation
of a life celebrated
for its touch,
its legacy

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Excellent - yes - you've defined it well -

Susan

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

So much of what you wrote here is so vividly true...gave me chills the way you were able to express it.  Hugs sweetie.
