Lost in Thought

I could hear it in your voice
and would take away the ache
if only I could...

I went searching for you today,
window shopping for memories,
handling thoughts one by one,
forming a quilt in mind,
wondering if that would suffice.

I try to feel you, your words and tone
sometimes failing to reach inside
and pull out the correct pitch,
but still enjoying the melody
that keeps me coming back.

I dream of the harmony that seeps in
to the "every now and then"
wanting more but patiently
holding emotions in check.

I will one day gift you with seams,
piecing together the quilt of feelings,
of times together, moments shared,
padding the fears of the past
within the layers of tomorrow,
protecting us...
from the cold hands of Winter.

M
