It's easy to think about feelings,
those that rise this time of year
remembering the words left behind,
benched for someone, anyone
to belong to...

Wishing it was you that stopped by,
noticed the ribboned scroll
meant for the moments shared,
wishing for "the next"
that which comes
but never seems to be enough.

Wishing it was you, whose fingers
unwrapped the words
designed for eyes to absorb,
perhaps to experience a touch
of need to know
of need to hear
that today means as much
to you as every day of you
means to me.

M

( every year on  Feb. 14th, I leave a new poem scrolled and ribboned on a bench in a mall for someone to find and possibly have a gift of a poem for their loved one...)

Here I keep hoping I find one for me--but sweetie, I think now I may write a secret poem, and leave it for a someone.

You have a beautiful heart.

I think mine will be left in the library.

*damn if that ain't the nicest thing...*

thank you

Karen,
Once I watched before the mall closed, hidden behind a kiosk and saw one of the Hispanic workers reach for it... it was after 911 and I think he was afraid to open it, so I went over and asked if he had a loved one or girlfriend and he said yes..and I said this is a gift for her from him...

Soulfisher, well I haven't received one in the last 5 years and don't expect to
and I have only left them for the last 4 years I think, since I have been  posting poetry and only on that day and only there where that bench has meaning to me.

I remember reading about this last year, impressed that anyone would think to do such a kind act with no thought of acknowledgment or recompensation.  I think you are a pretty terrific lady and, of course, a wonderful poetess.

Thank you all for your nice responses... I really do enjoy  Feb 14th  at the mall..I go alone sit on the bench for an hour or so reading a new poetry book that I buy at the bookstore, chat with whoever sits next to me young or old and then when it gets close to closing I leave the rose and poem on the bench and go to a movie..so at least I get to enjoy the special day...and don't feel so alone.

hugs

Great idea, M!
I sometimes write a small poem to the wait staff or about the service I received at a restaurant and then leave it with the tip, just before I leave.  Great fun!
Hope you have a pleasant day at the mall tomorrow.
