Winter Picnic
From the open window of my cherished memories.

I have been in deep thought on these cold winter days.
Thinking about life and her magical highways.
About people that come and go in our lives like golden ribbons streaming
into the starlit universe.
Bringing sadness and fun filled days.
Pouring love into the creases of our imagination.
I now pull on a golden ribbon bringing back a memory of long ago ......

The snow falling in silent beauty-
A cold mist freezing our noses and words swirling into the crisp morning air.
“A beautiful day.” I exclaim.
Turning to my son.
“Let’s call grandma and see if she’d like to go on a winter picnic.”
My son jumping with glee, my mother saying...
“Yes”
but doubt hidden in her gentle tone.
The basket filled with fresh baked bread, fried chicken, apple pie and a thermos of hot
chocolate........ smell absolutely delicious as I close the wooden lid.
A tiny park hidden in the backroads of a cluttered city.
The sun warming the silver crystals as we crunch our way to a nearby table covered
with glistening ice and freezing snow.
In the silence we hear the creak of a spinning carousel......
welcoming us to come and take a chilly afternoon ride on this excursion of winter
magic.
Making snow angels, telling silly jokes, laughing at the world and thanking the
powers that be for this wonderful, delightful fun filled, magical day.
My son, now grown, my mother, no longer upon this earth...
I reach into my treasure chest of memories captured by golden ribbons and a smile.
Wondering what tomorrow’s memories will bring
and
what golden ribbon will enter my vivid imagination of past yesterday’s.

Hugs BonBon

Good to see you, and always your yummy poetry...loved this, the smell the images
Wow...a winter picnic sounds beautiful, just as your words are indeed the sound of music.
