It'd been too long since I thought
about love, the letting go,
the holding on and all of that

Come to the dance

my friend said
celebrate my folks anniversary
his dad smokes stale cigars
and his mother wears hot pink with polda dots

I didn't want to go but I did. To me, love was
elemental, two bodies and the chemistry
all that combustion that later settles down
to conversation. And I was okay with that.

But forty years together?

The room went black,
lanterns bobbed back and forth;
I inhaled something sweet
and looked the other way.
He held his hand out for her,
you could have heard
a pin drop when they played

The Duke of Earl

when I saw their eyes meet
and his hand move
around her waist, I smiled.
It seemed to me
that she'd taken a star
from his back pocket,
polished it, and transported
themselves somewhere
amid a constellation,
reaffirming solid ground.
They were airless,
free-spirited, unaffected,
and still in love.

This is excellent..!!
What really grabbed at me was the way the title
from the moment I read it...the song..'Duke of Earl'..
popped into my head and played all the way through to the end.
Do I like this write?

There are these rare treasures in life, if we have the opportunity to see them for what they are.  Very well done. Still wondering how the porch went...and welcome back.
Look forward to your writes.
