THE FIRST NOEL

copyright 2004
Linda L. Dowd

+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+
A trumpeting declaration,
Is resounding in mankind’s ear.
Gabriel's blowing his clarion horn,
With tidings of Christmas cheer.

A choir of Christmas angels,
Sings praise on the birth of Our Lord.
Sweet voices ring out in harmony,
In a symphony of lyrics and chords.

“Hallelujah, it is Jesus’ birthday.
He has come to save one and all!”
~ Stars lit the eyes of the infant
Who was born in a Bethlehem stall.

Wise Men gathered around Him.
They followed a star as were told.
Bearing three gifts for the Infant,
Of Frankincense, Myrrh, and Gold.

Mary and Joseph ~ His parents,
Rejoiced in the birth of God’s Son.
And lovingly they did raise Him,
~ Our Saviour and Chosen One.

Straw lined the simple manger.
In this humble wood bed He did lie.
While the bright shining star of David,
Hung down from December sky.

A shepherd boy came to see Jesus.
He stood by the Babe gazing on.
Moved by the sight of the Infant,
He joined angel choir in song.

An ox, a lamb, and a donkey,
Were awed by the Holy Christ Child.
Silently they looked on in wonder,
In a manner both meek and mild.

For over two thousand Noels,
We’ve honoured the birth of Our King.
All Christians continue to gather,
And in praise of Our Lord, we sing.

A trumpeting declaration,
Is resounding in mankind’s ear.
Gabriel's blowing his clarion horn,
With tidings of Christmas cheer.
