Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2004-12-12 09:40 AM

It is deep, black morning.

She is unsteady in footfall.

The stair groans, mercy.

Her heels are heavier.

They hear vastness of snow.

Outside.

Window frost.

Her hangnails catch shadow.

The flaking milk carton hemorrhages.

Within.

Inward. Sour. Pale.

She drinks to a new thickness.

Her throat is dense with white, her head.

Palms over palms. The table creaks.

She hung up her fishnets hours ago.

The rent is due.

Hours ago.

Another window is open. She senses chill.

Hours.

The door is not open.

No food. No heat. Too much money.

Her fishnets, and hours.

The men never sleep and

Dammit.

The door.She turns.

Her daughter is still dying.

There is nothing

Upstairs.

If I were to touch you, would you bleed a velvet river, running miracles through the sodden ground? --Moi

I will come back to read this, again...
It is a winter's poem...
to be reviewed every season...

Reading you (I think for the second time) is like sitting down to eat, polishing off a meal, surprised afterwards, that I was hungry, and didn't know.

thank you

I am a new fan.
