you put your fingers
to your lips
a shhh in pretend
with those thoughts behind

when I talked about the good times
quite a few a night sometimes
and how the sunshine feels
when nothing else is on

something about 33
and how we save up after
for another time
when we can let it all run out

you said that watching horses
made you feel that way
and your eyes felt warmest
before they blazed

and now today is here
and you have those veils
around your wrists
and you hope it lasts long enough

to make some lovely scars

This is beyond more

and everyone should admire
the beauty of the equine...

I love this and the part you brought in about the horses. My neighbor recently bought a horse. He has him in a fenced place  very near where I live. I talk to him a lot and he is getting to know me now. Yesterday he saw me go to the mail box and ran up to the fence so that I would talk. Animals have so much sense, don't they?
Hugs,
Ethel

There isn't a moment quit like riding your horse bareback, with only reins to guide him...feeling that burst of power and muscle underneath, the quiver and desire to run with the wind, mane slapping your face...you hunch down, next to his withers, with nothing but your knees holding you on, you grap a handful of mane in your hands, laying your head close to his neck, and like a shot, he's off, hoofs beating in time, faster and faster, as if there were nothing could hold you back...faster, the sound of his nostrals taking in and blowing out with ease, the pa boom, pa boom of his strength almost leaving the ground....you feel his excitement, his freedom, his happiness, you are one with the wind.

This reminded me of my white horse, Mr. Brick...he was a marvelous steed, 18 hands high, thick white mane flowing down past his neck, every muscle in his body, excentuated, with a heart to match.

He is indeed a lovely memory and was a faithful friend....thank you D. for this....even though, it wasn't your intention, see the marvelous happiness poems bring to people's hearts, even though, your words might mean something else?  Incredible how nature works....what a lovely first read this morning....
I'll shut up now..hehe

DS

Your poem brings to mind my dad, who loved to go to the track, and would take little me with him, because I loved horses.  I felt very important, because I was with him, and because there were no other little girls around, just me with my eyes on high!

Thanks!
