Seymour Tabin at eighty three:

If he wants, can wear purple
And cover his head with red
Like Jenny Joseph,
And spit (like she)
If he feels like it.

And if someone on the street,
Or in a store, makes tease
Like "that's the wrong hat",
He can bark a remark
Like "I'll do as I please",
Because "I am eighty three"

One thing for sure;
We men of younger age
Need him,
To touch our lives
With metaphor and song,
Especially we
Whose dads are gone.

I see a waving hand
In the breaks of his stanzas,
That beckons me forth,
And I become less afraid
Of the rough trail of age.

Thank You Seymour,
For smoothing the path.

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.
Longfellow

What a delight - much enjoyed, as I'm sure Sy will too --

Thank you for the replies, but please give all praise to Seymour...without him as a subject, this poem would not exist...

Isn't he just the loveliest man?

*sighing*

He truly is, and we're all blessed by his gentle good humor and grace.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to say so, ice.

Hugs for you both.

I see that hand too, Ford...
and it is always waving us in,
and never away...

Wonderful tribute!

Thank you for this thoughtful poem.
LOL you know at eighty three you can say alot of things you can't when you're younger.

How thoughtful!  I have to tell you thought that if Sy can't get to do what he wants at 83, his wife Isabel with whoop the butt of the person trying to stop him, honest!   They are the cutest couple you've ever seen and still hold hands, I just love that.  They teach us all well.

Thank you all for your posted replies..

Each one is very special, to me, and I know "See More" appreciates them also...
He is entitled to all praise given here...We revolve around older people like him, those of us who have been driven to disrespect for older generations in the past..We need him in our lives...

Peace_________ice
