Softly walks the phantom
in the middle of my dreams
moving props, preparing,
to sing a lover’s song
and I wait expectantly.

How lilting is the music,
how tender are the words,
no one could ere believe
they’ll simply fade away
but daybreak and the music plays
the phantom sings undoubtedly
lest I should turn away
from the midnight of his soul.

Still today the song remains
suspended in the air
for me to see, touch, hear again,
as I walk the shadowed path
forward, on, and into,
a soon to be belief
the phantom’s only me
masked in my wishes, needs.

How beautifully I sang;
did you see the phantom, me
in the middle of your dreams
loving, loving you?
