Autumn’s odd Sun,
whose anomalous angle
prods the optic,
probes behind the pupil,
withdraws. Harried eyes
are readied for a Winter

Bleeding Spring,
screaming Summer
and feral Fall,
whose potato peelings,
dust motes
and rustlings have drained
this year’s color,
now draws a
sylvan shadowed shawl

I promise not to craze
as I become your Winter

A beard, once a field
of red sorghum whose
tight grains wove
their own course,
gathers white
in drifts

The thatched roof above,
overhanging as though
resigned to being
“long in the tooth,”
yields to snows’
downy fleece

While this sepia
sketch bears resemblance
to ‘The North Wind,’
my whisperings rush
warm and gentle,
close and constant

Remember this when;
white Winter throws
its web upon your face,
mercury flees the
whorls of your ears,
knees and thighs cut
through the frigid air
and clay feet are tempted
by the numb of recruiting
sidewalks

My love’s an iron stove,
Its song a whistling kettle

Richard

The imagery, and the honest declaration of feeling are beautiful and touching to my heart.  This is one of my favorite poems of yours.

Well now, that was romance at its finest Sir Richard.  A beautiful write to float through on the metaphors that make dreams.

RS,  Cezanne's painting called 'The Cracked House' is my favorite of his landscapes.
What a wonderfully complex self-portrait you've painted with this write.

Thank you all very much. I started this a year ago. It, unfortunately, applies to no one in particular. But as the old song says "I can dream can't I? Can't I?

Certain artists strike me as seasons and Cezanne suggests autumn.

love the title...love these thoughts:

My love’s an iron stove,
Its song a whistling kettle

as I have a soaptstone iron stove and a kettle that steams the air.

*laugh*

Now I understand why life often feels like my own private ice age.

Well done thanks for sharing this.
