To examine the man
they examine the rat,
the mouse and too the
chicken

soon to include
the old Tomcat
the plot will only
thicken

analysts diligence,
slaves to the scope
exhuming the data
they know it’s

not their domain
to philosophize, nope,
that they’ll leave
to the poet

the poet’s compelled
to rise from the page,
marry the known to
unspoken

tho’ often repelled
by the petrified stage
where the two legg’d
DNA’s broken

thus his eyes see
tales of the rat,
the habits of mice,
the bantam

in the actions of those
others suppose that
are upright and so
he descants ‘em

easiest spied by the
poet’s third eye
are the cartoons
of Gallus Gallus

who tho’ bravely lets fly
when the sun he descries
is too quick and too soon
with the phallus

and that comical cock
who unwitting flock stalks
thinks they swoon
to a dandy strutter

views in mirrors a hawk,
the facts show he walks
quite poltroon
more a randy rutter
.
