For Pippa, Sara-Jane, James
for all of New Zealand, all of the sailing world,
all the people of the earth.
Remembering Sir Blake.

He sails tonight on a different sea,
red socks waving from the mast in the sky,
part of his playful memory and his wonderful legacy.
A giant on the seas, Sir Peter Blake sailed the world
backed by a strong New Zealand breeze.

Peter, your mainsail was well-trimmed in the final wind.
Your mission of love for our Mother Earth,
your final days, an adventure to protect the Amazon
will not be forgotten by this world citizen,
nor will the adventures of you and all the mates
of your beloved ship the Seamaster.

Goodbye Sir Peter Blake,
may your heart sail forever
on more peaceful seas,
and may others take up the slack in the sail.

*
In memory of Sir Peter Blake,
New Zealand, America's Cup winner,
captain of The Seamaster,
(formerly Cousteau's Antarctic Explorer)

*
FYI, Sir Peter Blake was murdered Dec 6, 2001 on his ship the Seamaster, while in harbor on the Amazon River. The following is an exerpt from his final log:

"The quality of water and the quality of life in all its infinite forms are critical parts of the overall ongoing health of this planet of ours, not just here in the Amazon, but everywhere.

We want to restart people caring for the environment as it must be cared for.

To win, you have to believe you can do it. You have to be passionate about it. You have to really "want" the result, even if this means years of work.

The hardest part of any big project is to begin.
We have begun, we are underway, we have a passion.
We want to make a difference.

Kind regards,

Peter."

Thanks for reposting, Kacy.
I fear there are far too few who care.

Glad you reposted I missed it first go round. Oil now, air and water in the future (already municipal water companies as well as water rights are being "privatized" by greedy corporations) and truth tellers have paid the price since well before Jesus.

Among the "multitude" who do not care, and never will . . .

For them, it's ok if the planet "goes away".
Hardly encouraging, is it?

Beautiful tribute dear Kacy.

May his passion and his mission be lived and continued by more and more people who care.

Thank you.

Thanks Margherita, Krawdad, and Richard, for taking time to read this and reply.
Kraw, thanks for that link, for it has helped me a great deal in understanding possible reasons for some people's behaviors. I guess I never really thought about it in terms of the Apocalypse. I still can't imagine how anyone could interpret the end of our natural world as a positive.

Kacy
A stirring tribute...and as you know I stand with those who truly care about this earth.
That means that I stand with you...

" I still can't imagine how anyone could interpret the end of our natural world as a positive."

There is no real evidence that the ending of natural world has anything to do with religion...if it ends on its own accord, so be it...But I will fight with words and deeds if I can, anyone who threatens it.

With hands across my heart, I whisper namaste.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for that reply, Ice.
For those who read this post, in addition to the link provided earlier by Krawdad, he gave me another link which I hope you will all take the time to read.

This was so beautiful. I've still got my red socks in my drawers, and i wear them every time i go sailing. Why? maybe it's just the New Zealand passion inside of me, as well as the passion to sail.
This poem reminded me of that wonderful man who, helped me out, out on the sea.

I was 10 in 2001, and this was before he died of course, and his boat was anchored right next to my family's boat. I went out on the row boat and I ran out of petrol on the outboard and was floating steadily toward the rocks. Next thing i know after stressing and crying my eyes out, a familiar face is coming toward me in his own row boat. Peter himself helped me out of that rut and i thank him very much! Such a kind man, in every way possible.

Legend to our country, and thank you for reminding us of his brilliance, and what a sad ending to his life it was.

R.I.P SIR PETER BLAKE.

you're the only one keeping me alive

My God, what a beautiful story you have gifted us with, and I thank you so much for adding this reply for all to read. Thank God he was there that day to help you. And what a brave heart you were at such a tender age, to row about solo! I envy you your spirit of adventure.
Thanking Sir Peter again, posthumously, for rescuing one of our family. May your soul be at peace, Sir Peter Blake...hero.
