Somewhere in-between, so many places,
Is a town I like to call home.
To big city folk, It may not be much,
But it is all I’ve ever known.

The town itself is centuries old,
But modernising’s killing those times.
Still the long a banded train station,
Is preserved for historical minds.
Talking about written past events,
Just opposite stood once something rare.
A king around the 16th hundred,
Build a Tavern on what’s now town square.

These roads and flats, these stores and jobs,
Didn’t magically appear.
Were someone’s sweat, were someone’s blood,
It were and will still be for years.
For In time folks will become bound,
To what they see as their home town.

Can see the school I used to attend
When I was younger from back yard
And just beyond there is the hillside
Where summers and friendships used to start

Somewhere in-between, so many places,
Is a town I like to call home.
To big city folk, It may not be much,
But it is all I’ve ever known.

I live in one of those, Brian, with a tavern in the center of town...probably not as old  as your  hometown, and not where I grew up in childhood, but where I have grown in my adult years.

Something strikes me as wonderful about this poem, Brian. Perhaps it is the theme, I also live outside a small town..(pop 2500)

Perhaps it is small town America that has made the whole country strong?

Tighten up a few lines, and you will have a classic poem, one that appeals to all who have experienced small town life...

good job, I enjoyed reading this
