Fagin & Sunshine’s Reminisce of Christmas Past

When I was quite small and my sister with me,

My Dad brought home a Christmas tree.

A “Charlie Brown” tree both scraggly and small…

Mom looked at it and said, “Is that all?”

Dad said, “Don’t worry, and give it a chance.”

We didn’t need to be told, for around it we danced.

Carefully, lovingly, we unpacked Christmas boxes

Ancient ornaments all faded and worn

Glass beads and candle carousels

Silver tinsel and more

Dad would hang the lights first,

Such a wondrous sight,

Then Mom showed us how

To trim the tree right.

Large bulbs on the bottom, small on the top,

“Careful,” Mom said,“don’t let not one drop!”

Cookies and fudge, and salt-water taffy

And ribbon candies would drive us daffy…

Stockings bearing our names were laid

As Christmas was such from the laughter we made.

Mom at the piano, and Dad’s baritone

Made any Christmas completely our own

We shivered great with such anticipation

Awaiting Rudolph and Santa’s greatest creations…

And simple gifts then are today’s great antiques

Reminiscing shared makes for memories unique.

Merry Christmas to all

Karilea & Robert

Brother, you cannot imagine how pleased I am with our duet, when one month ago, we had so many praying for you to be well and healthy again.  You were very close to not even seeing your 51st birthday...let alone enjoy another Christmas.  This has made my Christmas the best, ever...to be able to duet with you, to say one more time, "I love you"...and to know that you will be around for a long while....Congratulations on your 100th post!

I love you.

I'm so happy for the two of you!
To see our prayers answered for Robert..
and this memory jogging duet from you both,
brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.
Season's greetings to you both!

Karilea and Robert, thank you both so much for sharing your beautiful memories with us. Reading your poem brought back a lot of memories of Christmas when I was growing up. There was only my "little" brother and me and our parents, but we had a house full of love.
Merry Christmas!!

Yes, a great reminder that family IS the magic of Christmas time.  When there is nothing else...there is family.  I remember times where we didn't exchange anything at all.  My mother wept once about it.  I reminded her that we had our family.  It was the best Christmas of my life.  We had no gifts.  But we were rich that Christmas morning.  Rich beyond our wildest dreams.  Another great reminder.  Thank you for that.

Lovely tribute to one another. My brother and I have such memories as well, but not quite as sweet as this!

Take care, both of you and may God bless.

This is a most touching write of a warmly remembered childhood.  These are song lyrics?   Well written tunes!
Thanks for taking me back. Ken

I suppose that's exactly what the song "There's no place like home for the holidays, cause no matter how far away you are"  means...family, wonderful memories and good cheer....a reminder of how really rich we are.

Congratulations to both of you.

What a wonderful post...not only because of the beauty it brings to my Christmas season, but also because it is only posted here due to a true miracle. Fagin, I'm so happy you are doing so much better and here to share another Christmas with your wonderful sister and the rest of your family.
Here's to a lifetime of beautiful duets

Maureen...

Bless your loving heart. My brother has been on my mind so much this last week - so very close and so very intimate in thought and love. I know he's trying to send me a message...something very special. When it comes, I'll let you know.

Happy New Year, my dear friend.

Love,

K
