Poised ready for attack
one hand reaches for the latch
the other limp and listless,
unwilling to obey
and face the deadly onslaught
of people in the way.

Breathe and be a butterfly
but it all comes down to knowing
I’m absorbent like a sponge
and the one behind, in front,
a waterfall cascading
discomfort and dis-ease.

It’s not easy to believe
God shields the weaker few
when through a minefield walking
I am forced to go
to celebrate a birthday
of one I cannot know.

And yet somewhere far beneath
life’s trials and tribulations
there stirs a little something
in corners of my brain
to bring into awareness
the blessings he displays
like me you see in front of you
in the middle of your dreams.

Still the door is waiting,
I turn to run away,
but the magnet of necessity,
a force to be obeyed,
pulls me through the opening
as “onward Christian soldiers”
the marching beat of poor and weak,
plays out inside my head.

And isn’t it amazing,
I’m back home to tell the tale,
and I think someone is telling me
It’s okay to live this way
on the edge of needing more displays
to prove there does exist
a magnet of necessity
to pull me through the opening
of life after my death!

Helen

I have a phobia ....and the mall is one thing that brings it on big time...you have just proven to me, why.  I'm glad you survived!

Thank you whiskey for the read and for commenting.

Martie - Hi, I have a lot of theories about things none of which I'm able to prove but we always do survive the trips to the mall so why is the phobia is around?  Some things we just can't talk ourselves out of.
