Floating gently on a cloud....

0 posted 2004-12-03 06:40 PM

Into my life you came, bringing with you a rainbow.
A rainbow of delicate hue, soft and velvety, it grew
And spread itself across my sky and bluebirds sang.
“There’s a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow”
I had read in the well-meaning book of childhood,
And I chased and chased your rainbow, looking for
The end, wanting to see what gold lay waiting there.

Time told me in gentle whispers to cease looking,
Stand still and see. The red, the passion so briefly
Between us. Orange, the warmth of your affection.
Yellow, a flirtatious sun flaunts her new robes, your gift.
Green, the growth of trust. Blue, the rivers of happy pearls
Prisms to my heart. Indigo, darkness without which
Your light could not be seen. Violet, gentle caring.

What an array! To such beauty were my eyes so blind!
I searched no more but feasted my soul on rainbow
Sweetness. My only desire to gorge on this honey of Life.
Then ‘gainst my will I saw my Rainbow’s final end.
No explosion of glory, just tattered velvet drowned in swamp.
Now you are gone and those unique colours but a memory,
Leaving me alone with seven shades of suffocating grey.

Elizabeth,
With out your writing I could only imagine. But now I have a sense of your pain and wish you healing, peace and joy.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
