The boy's grown up
...and I can no longer
kiss away the pain.
The boy's grown up
...and it takes more than
a mothers smile to chase
away the tears.
The boy's grown up
...and I can no longer
rock him, scold him, and
the hurts he feels aren't hurts
I can heal.
The boy's grown up
...and I cry for him
in the darkness of my room
where he can't see my tears.
The boy's grown up
...yet still when I look
at him I see that happy
baby boy.
The boy's grown up
...and mama lets go

And yanno..doesn't matter how old they get..

This was a touching write.  I have a 17 year old that I hate to see talking of college and living on campus.  He drove to Arlington, TX (an hour drive on the freeway) by himself the other day.  His mother was a wreck!  We aren't cool anymore.  Sound familiar?  Do what we did.  We started over.  We now have a 2 1/2 yr old named Jacob.  Yep, we get to do it all again.  I wouldn't have it any other way!  Great write.  You expressed the feelings of all parents of children nearing that time in their lives where they stretch their independent wings (yet to us they're still able to perch upon our shoulders).  Thanks for the touching reminder of how important it is to spend time with my own.

Kevin
