(for ‘pumkin’)
.
.
.
.
An Ash far too thin to have gotten so tall
sways in wind that announces a squall,
hastens away a few sparrows so small
………I’m amazed that I see them at all

The branches, mere twigs that are nearest the sky
futilely cleave to their leaves, still they die,
autumn bereaves whereas spring will defy
………a season denuded, our fall

No doubt you have wondered to what do you owe
words of a specter from decades ago,
circumspect, guarded, selected as though
………they’d expect or would hope that you’d know

I foraged to find you but not for a game,
while my seasons decline it wasn’t the aim
of a hoary old fool to rekindle a flame
………long doused by the tears of his woe

Drawn by the wind now the dark comes this way,
conspires the hour to sketch it all grey
and I like this bower with little to weigh
………bare what it is I would say….

I’ve solace in news you were able to breed,
fate lay not barren your womb for a deed
viewed then as despairing but one now I read
………as your path from my disarray

I sense too your tension that I will not share
the hard road I chose, the pain that I wear,
it’s not from pretension I take you not there
………again it is you that I spare

For I took the trail that led through the rain,
the darker of forests, the longest of chains,
embracing tornados and  hurricanes
………and what man seeks comfort there?

Please know for a time I did stand in the sun,
basked in the joy of three daughters, a son
emitted an aura from which coy wouldn’t run
………but those days have since been undone

These words were not written for some pity’s sake
more a confession that in hindsight’s wake
yours was a love whose loss even now aches
………keep this or join those who shun

At times unknown reasons cause us to forsake
love, so like seasons which both make and break,
but for me to give is for me to take
………I go now my rain has begun

Richard

I feel like I say these words so often about your poetry...so I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself...but this is very touching and very well done!

sometimes we need to write these for ourselves as much as the other person.

Outstanding rhyme scheme and cadence here Richard... pure poetry read aloud....
and the humilty of the emote is touching.
Well done poet sir.

the most beautiful things that one can ever write is something that comes from the heart..

you sir, have a beautiful heart.  This touched me.  HUGS

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....

Richard, a tender write of heartbeat heard loud and clear. But who can say one way or the other, perhaps, she might have chosen to travel with you on rocky roads?

To go through life and not make amends
in some way
is not a life...

This brings forth both love, respect,
acceptance of self, but mostly
the apology, and a chance of forgiveness...

In a world that is far too short on time,
you just penned an everlasting gift.

Thank you, Sir.

Excellent write concerining that subject, your words seem to come so easy to you, and you are correct, I am too young.  I appreciate the words, they give me some direction.

Beautifully honest Richard, and I do hope you sent it.  Janet Marie is so right, that sometimes we just have to write these for ourselves.  However, this one shows a need to reach its destination.

Quite touching - heartfelt -

Susan
