The Stone
"For God has said, 'I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.'" Hebrews 13:5 (TEV)
(For God, my rock, and those who are lost)

Once I leapt into a fissure fraught with foul despair
And found myself at the gates of Satan’s wicked lair.

But, there I found my feet steadfast upon this mysterious stone
that lifted me to where I’d leapt and sent me on my own.

I sailed the tides of His oceans blue and leapt to the murky deep
only to land upon this mysterious stone which beckoned my soul to keep.

I pulled the blanket of sorrow once over my laden brow
only to feel the stone beneath steal it away somehow.

I wandered from the fold in search of still a greater place
only to find the stone was there to carry me back to grace.

I drank of the vial of insolence there amidst the sins of all
only to awake to find the stone beneath to catch my fall.

I buried His Sword of Righteousness to brandish my rapier high
only to find this stone steadfast cradling me by and by.

Gripped with shame I fell to my knees in this river of tainted years
only to witness that river run through and wash away my tears.

And there I listened as He spoke to me upon Salvation’s stone.
“My child, you were the sheep lost from the fold but you were never alone.”
