Through a rear window
impatiently awaiting a cast removal
sits a voyeur by day
protagonist at night
before him framed by painted window cases
a show of neighbourly events unfolded

a day in the life an athletic Miss Torso
in constant flexion before an open window
who could meet anybody she liked
extended thighs in plain daylight

Neighbours are supposed to love one another
today, to look at one seems a real bother

within a stone's throw
Miss Lonely Hearts, the floor below
she'd pour herself a glass of bourbon to sleep
the lack of a man was cause to weep

and the lady which lived above them all
launched their dog in a pulley run basket
which later killed ended up in a casket
lamented on the horrors of shared court

neighbours are supposed to love one another
today, to look at one seems a real bother

what of the honeymoon couple in a first abode
her constant want of him wasn't his lode
where screens covered apartment lairs
he'd pull one up to surface for air

a sculptress nighbour, her statue called hungry
advised lawn maintenace, got salesman angry,
neighbours are supposed to love one another
today, to look at one seems a real bother

The salesman who ended up caught in view
disposal of his wife embroiled him in a stew
tried to pawn off the wife's ring and effects
her absence supported view of his coarse defect.

In full view, one day after the next
who lives aside might be sighted as vexed
neighbours are supposed to love one another
today, to look at one seems a real bother.

Hitchcock depicted well the dilemma of living in proximity of one another, albeit it was from the standpoint of voyeurism. Ironically that voyeur turned out to be crime solver. Maybe the idea of lovely neighbourhoods is just a myth...and it's always what you make of it...
Maybe one shouldn't take the term voyeur for just face value..especially if there is a neighbourhood watch in your area.

Hey Martin,
The neighborhood watch in my neighborhood
has been a big success so far.
Still lock my doors at night though, before I go anywhere.

Within this heart you'll find love

Can't say that this didn't get to me.  There's just got to be some common binding that causes neighbors to be worth a little bother.  Where are the commonalities?  Quite a puzzle, I'm sure.  Enjoyed your thoughts and writing.
