Village by the sea.

The hills are green.
Orchards heavy with fruit.

Swords and shields
upon the wall,
our horses pull the easy plow.
Our strong arms draw nets to harvest the Baltic feast.
Good fortunes increase
with every day
ending in sunsets pink
to blue
the hue
of our happiness.

Our songs long no more than this.

Yet, in the evening while we lay
with Käti beneath the twinkling stars,
our hearts are drawn to young brothers there
in far off Austria where we spilled our blood
against the Turkish horde,

and know;
that while our limbs are strong,
against that which we now for long:
the princely pleasures our Polish peace,
settled lives with happy wives
near rolling fields rich with wheat,
we shall not sleep
should we hear again
distant Vienna suffering.

Our blood
is red.

remembering the sacrifice, with thankfulness, yet knowing the struggle often waits over the horizon

powerful poem, great imaging

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

This stanza did it for me!  Wonderful job here.
