Poem for a Guy

He Lost it all on the way from Newcastle
Stage Manger there
Car lost the road
And so he cared

Cared beyond anything I knew
Hit what was left
Met him
In a turnstile box
By a Children’s Zoo
As he took the money
And lost it on his counter

Many a time
I put his counter right
Jamming punters tight
Together when they were courting
It wasn’t such a fight

Lived in Brixton
One room bedsit
Welcoming
A fire on a luxury meter
In Brixton

Things impose debts on you
And you repay debts
Until you know
The debts within yourself
Should be repaid

And you don’t forget

Yes and we make them ourselves but I dont suggest that we should take the world's debts on.

We are forgiving debts now but all the money ever did was to go into a Dictator's pocket and a Swiss Bank account and we are now supposed to say, yes it is fine to rob the money that people in our country have gone without to feed a Dictator and here is some more.

My thoughts on debt were of more intrisic debts within yourself.

Sorry if I have got the reply wrong but I look at people in my own country who need help yet my Government in it's desire for kudos and Brown and Blair's next job is ripping the country into recession and squandering money like it doesn't matter anymore.

Not just my words - some of the many out of work are moved off the register so the figures look goo, it is like the basic rate of tax.

Basic rate stays the same and everything else that can't be seen is raised and is milked so you now having people coming up to you and saying "this is a recession".   I haven't seen regular figures on my trade like this for 6 years.

Dave- I felt from the poem that it is debts within ourselves - read your comments below, however, and must agree whole heartedly - same here, as you well know, cutting the school programs because of lack of funding, yet trying to dictate what other countries do within their own borders - give me a break - we have our own poor, our own down trodden, and our underpriveledge - let's care for them first - then if we've wealth left over - let's provide humanitarian aide and not try to manipulate policies - if there is an oil issue - get off our duffs and figure out the alternatives - it's not as if we didn't see this coming -

okay - rant, rant -

good stuff here, Dave

Dave: When I was drawn to those particular words, I guess I was selfish... for I was thinking only of the debts within myself... and the lack of wherewithal to pay them. *S*

Sorry I hit a nerve... peace.

Debts within/debts without

there are plenty enough and you made  us think, Dave.

Karmaic. So often we readily absorb the seeming punishment of "what comes around" and are left wondering when our turn for some good is.....or what came first the chicken or the egg. Enjoyed

I agree with your thoughts.

If politicians could finally commit to the task the electors have assigned them ... we surely would have less to worry about.

Here we have our Berlusconi who too is an expert in not paying his own debts ...

Thanks to everybody

I did sit and toast bread on a fire with this guy and I listened

Maybe we all at some point end up toasting a piece of bread and it is nice with your favourite topping on it

Thanks

Dave

No, one should not.  To forget is to forgive.
But we can forgive, and not forget.
Memories are our very own substance.
Never forget.  Never.
