She lay still this day after
Wearing the veil of white draped from limbs
That reached low for her skin
Hiding in places her now grey eyes

Having risen in her bed on elbows of rain
The white robe that covered her long thighs
Spread out in rippled soft hand
against the flank of hills

I watched her for a while
As I sat in the shadow of  an early sun
With miles yet to travel on pox marked ribbons
Wide enough for two if neither crowded in
That fed slick tongues of slush
Eager to eat too fast

I felt her then
Beneath my words
And let her arms pull me close that I might taste
How it was to be held within
To be a part of whole usually left blank
As pages turned or chapters changed

Till I sighed tears gently against the wind
And watched them fall into her
Adding to us both a bit more
To blend…

The lady blue wept her wet tears against stone

So I wrote
Knowing the words would not capture what lay
In either of us
And that the danger of drowning in eloquence was as grey
As the risk of plumbing depths
something telling me to leave a page bare
For her to write later as she found the soul of me
And I wrote instead

“She has moved me with beauty and haunted my nights
till I can feel her on my skin even when I am far from her.”

“How can I deny, the love  of her?”

finished I closed the book

walked to the edge of her bank
and lay on my back

    to make angels

I felt you would come in today...

I had a thought about this morning's gifts...
albeit a bit on the chilly side...

quote:
so whitely pure and virginal...a bride's veil entangling trees with her joy.

Leave that on the banks, for your lady blue...

"walked to the edge of her bank
and lay on my back

Such a great ending for this lovely poem!

hmmm....must be my subliminal conscious coming back on me...because I thought the thought this morning, and didn't harken back to any particular poem....

so all I can say is,

see how deep the river runs?

Someday, somehow, I will see snow.

This is captivating, Cap.

As is the visual of you, making snow angels.

(That one is gonna stick with me yanno)
