A Fool's Gold

Fond of life abundant
he delivers himself wholly
to the alybaster stone
standing now beneath
this lamenting willow.

Summer eve delivers
mourning gray
to grieving strangers;
foreign to him all.

Faces,
all but fleeting,
faded memories.

Days coupled with chaos
commanded his greater mind.
Yet, today bears witness
to a greater love
than that of yesterday.

Why do they grieve for me?
I tended nary to those
poor lamenting souls,
but ever to those who
deemed my labor's love should
be the greater still.

Why now in the midst of my ascension
have I been forsaken by myself?

Lost still,
even beyond mortality,
unable to touch those grieving
beneath the willow below me.

Rain falls for me this day,
but alas, I am a richer man.
I have reconciled my lost soul
with all of them although I stand
away from them in wait..

Far below blind eyes see again.
My son,
who called upon his brother
as father in my stead,
I did not stay
upon your steed for you.

Through foul and desolate night
split by foraying firelight,
I did not hold your tiny hand.

My elder son,
who called upon me,
your father in your father's stead,
I failed you in understanding,
In learning,
and in teaching.

In your age of innocence
I stood away from you
principled in this fools quest
of the greater fool's gold.

I have come to know you all, now
when my touch has abandoned me
and voice is but a trace in the wind.

Epiphany in this late season,
rests squarely upon heavy shoulders
quenching this well of empty eyes.

I weep for you, now.
Blinded, now I see all things clearly.
Labor loved sums Love lost.
This fools gold delivered
a wanting soul ever from
his greatest rewards.

This was poingnant. What are all the shekels worth if the time to hoard them was stolen from the honest wealth of family? Good Thanksgiving eve post.
I see you're in Corsicana. I sold tens of  thousands worth of Corsicana mattresses in Houston and had some dealings with the guy that owns The Leather Stores who lives there.

Thank you for your kind, kind replies.  They were much appreciated.

RSWells,

I think the Leather Store shut down.  But, Corsicana Bedding is just down the street from where I work.  Not a thing has changed along Hwy 31 here...since the 30's (judging from pictures).  Got a Home Depot, Super Walmart, and a Gander Mountain though.  Yipeee!  Actually, I love living here.  The suppression of progress is one of the endearing things I love about it.  Slow, off the beaten path, etc.  Don't forget it's the fruitcake capital of the world!  Take care.

Kevin
