The Passing

The Creator,
The Great Spirit
Has been good to me,
Blessed me with warrior sons,
Brave beyond compare,
And two beautiful daughters,
Who walk within their mother’s essence.

I very soon will leave
To cross to the higher divide,
To walk with those, who have gone before.
I must know, have the peace in my heart,
That you will follow me in thought
And in deed, with honor and pride
That we might retain our principled heritage.

Please remember
My beloved sons,
We have never been fired by greed,
Never fought on another’s territory.
These things they call politics and religion
Should not be an excuse
For us to change who we are.

We are a proud people
And within ourselves we must remain free,
They can imprison our bodies,
But not our inner selves,
Our souls are but our own...to own.

The stranger has plundered
His way across that which is ours,
Robbed us of our lands,
Dirtied our waters
And spread diseases that we know not.
Murdered our innocent women and children,
And fought our brave warriors in unwanted battle,
And I fear we have learnt to retaliate.

My sons just live a joyful life
And give thanks for every day,
Bow not to anyone
Yet treat all with respect.
Live your lives whilst listening
To the voice of those who have gone before.
Take care of your sisters,
For they are of great value
And should be treated accordingly.

I have tried hard to walk this path,
For I wish to die as a brave chief
As well as a just and honorable one,
It is my wish that I might leave this
As a legacy to my children,
And to theirs - yet to be.

My sons remain true to who you are,
Do not become what you wish not to be.
My passing I know is close,
I will go, at peace and without fear,
For I know I walk the path of a circle
That is never-ending…and is for all,
And it is on this path,
This circle of eternity
That we will meet again.

Know that I am always with you,
Listen for me in the quiet of night,
For I will be there,
Talk to me...and I will hear you,
I am forever your father.

This is very touching. May your people be a quiver of arrows in the hand of the Creator.
