Son,

I have watched the sun rise over your head many days,
seen the wind tussle your hair, squint your blue eyes.
Watched a frown turn into a smile that shall never
be forgotten.

I have held you as a babe, bathed you, wiped you
and sung to you...I have seen your smile brighten
my own....countless times

I have mumbled at you, cussed because of you
and gritted my teeth...more than you shall know..
Or might want to know.

I have laughed with you, watched your tongue
play little lip games...seen freckles that never
wash away...watched you count the hairs
under your armpits....so cute...

I have taught you things I was taught, told you
things I was told...and kept from you things
that no boy your age should know...see or
feel...

But now, now my son....I pray for you,
just as I pray for them....those other young
boys who stand proud, who fight for my
and your freedom....who give their last
breath for us...

I pray for you because someday, you
might be there....and that will be the
hardest thing for me to do....

Letting you go into harms way...and
I will not be there to protect you as
I have done....these 14 years of your
precious life...

I love you....I truly do...’cause you
are my son...And I will continue to
pray for them, just as I pray for you.

Barry, I know where you are coming from.  We as parents never stop worrying for our children.  They grow up one day and we wonder where the time went.  Sometimes I wonder myself.  Try raising two girls, lol!  I loved you read, it was from the heart and sincere.  Thanks for the read, Steve.
