JFK/SIR LANCELOT?

forty-one years, today,
have passed
opened our eyes
cleared up delusions
confusions
of one man’s perfection,
rejection, convention

though many
misconceptions
have been divulged
still greater questions
remain

the glory, glamour, clamor
have subsided, some
having been set aside
while being astride
perplexity, complexity,
ambidextrous clarity

a nation in mourning
over sniper/sniper’s bullets
in mourning
over beauty’s loss
a severed head
of a government’s body

was it the beginning
of chaos, a tossing of values,
a lack of direction,
beyond detection,
while the remaining body
and its limbs
deteriorate in full view,
yet stealthily,
cell by cell
chip by chip
blip by blip?
do we not mourn
far greater tragedies

I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Dang, I was young back then...
and the whole world changed
right before my eyes.

In a split second the world
as we knew it
changed forever.

"was it the beginning
of chaos, a tossing of values"

We are still paying for that coup. We still are barred access to the records. We are yet governed by those involved.

Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, we mourn greater tragedies but it was a tragedy nontheless. JFK was so admired and loved that his murder created the "fall of innocence" in which the country has never recovered. He stood for what was good and right with the world. With his intelligence, handsomeness, wealth and charisma he represented what any man would love to aspire to....and he was gunned down from one day to the next. When good can be destroyed so easily by evil, it shakes one badly. With what it did to the United States, it was a tragedy of incredible proportions..

...and your poem is excellent!

Yes, it is almost as if that day began a multiplicity of tragedies. And yes, I realize this world has had horrid tragedies all of its existence, save its first few days. The holocaust, the U.S. Civil War and many, many far too numerous to mention throughout the history of mankind, but from the standpoint of my lifetime, this certainly seems to have been a beginning of the "fall of the new Rome."

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
