What was I?
The wisest,
the one who had
the most control
the one with the power.
Even among friends,
I was always too strange.
I am too strange
They don’t want to understand.
Never did.
It’s so dark.
Light is insanity.

I cannot cry.
I cried for you
and you applauded
because there was beauty
in my pain
and I could fulfill your needs.
Dark and misunderstood,
you pretended we had so much
so much in common.
We needed each other
but you did not want me.
You wanted the freedom
my power could give you.
I wanted you, for the paper rose
that had already faded when you gave it to me
the rose that was never alive.
It was all you could give me
and I loved you.
I was weak.  I am so weak.
I am too weak to cry
as I realize how my power
unleashed the monster
that is you.

That is you?
Who you want to be?
What of the man who wanted me
who held me in his arms
and whispered
that I was beautiful
dark and misunderstood
vulnerable and blossoming
like a paper rose?

Things just aren't always what they seem.
Sometimes you think you know someone so well, but yet they surprise, and sometimes it isn't for the best.
Good work!

What a magnificent metaphor you have penned here...one could write volumes on those few words alone.

Very excellent work on display here...
