Where will you go, he asked her. Anywhere other than here she said, defiant til the end. Dragging her bags, she slammed the door shattering his world. One week he got a postcard the next a letter from St. Paul telling him she was headed to New York. Then nothing. His heart breaking he waited. Then one night he came home and this message was on his machine And she said Daddy can I come home this world aint all it seems. It chews you up and spits you out then swallows all your dreams. Daddy can I come home? Am I still your little girl? And somewhere in that lonely night God gave him back his world. He waited and he wondered will she ever call again. Every night when he came home he played that old machine. He hoped that she would hear the words that he had left on there, words meant for her alone. And he said Baby won't you come home and make a brand new start We may not have a lot of things but let me heal your heart Baby wont you come home you're still my little girl. Baby please just come home you are my whole world. There was a knock on the door... |

WOW... the tears won't stop from this one. This reminded me of my sister who left home at age fourteen and my Dad would pray she was safe and come home soon. Paula darling sis of my soul, oh how wonderful is this, tear-jerking, and so very real. Love the ending darling heart, it has such an element of hope and happiness. You know you are always an incredible writer, and this is exceptional. Love this utterly, utterly, it is really one superb piece from you. I so love a poem that has style and substance, and yours always do. Great to see your writing darling one, it always impresses me. as always Mushy    Tomorrow is another day I don't know what it holds |

I went down this path a number of years ago. There is nothing more agonizing than when a son or daughter leaves home...whether on good terms or not...and the silence is so excruciating. Beautiful penning...lots of memories.... many can relate to this poem. |
