Falling just beneath the Core of still
Grasping hold of the back of my shirt
Bringing me to surface
Retrieving my life, like a swing partner
Touching flesh of cheek
With mouth to mouth
A little pale
Dry…squirming in your arms
With hopelessly chubby lovable

Bloated and bewildered
You give courage like a drink
Vanishing construction zones
Deliberate long arms
With a 2 mile an hour crawl
Heart so endless, it
Carries a wide load sign

I’ve never known happy like yours
Like a rich kids home
Filled with regular folks
Morphining my shattered soul
Smoothing my eye shadow
Placing me in a sleeveless black dinner dress

You sit next to me, not across
Like so many do
Enthusiasm speaks like an excited volunteer
I draw long straw
Take deep breaths
The weird thing is….you order, anyway
Never asking…simply knowing
Didn’t matter to me what we ate
Your company kicked butt
Bringing me flowers for the last month
Like a child waiting for a red light

Waiter brings our food
You divide both plates evenly between us
Just so we can both savor the blend
It was an automatic impulse
Without mask
You weren’t the kind of guy
Who would take a girl bungee jumping a 75 ft. cliff
With a 60 foot chord

I slouched at first, to appear shorter
But you knew? Didn’t you?
As if pondering some great riddle
You slowly raised your eyebrow
And our eyes met
Stopping to ponder each other
You said it was ok to be taller
You didn’t mind
Thunder roared in the background
But you kindly turned down the speakers
Wearing Golden Gloves
While peeling off the 3 year awkward weights
From around my neck

You asked if I’d enjoy sailing a catamaran.
Knowing how to bring the child out of the corner
With one hand lost in my hair
Intimately like it was our secret
“Sheesh”….you pressed two fingers slowly on my mouth
Blushing I asked while settling closer
”May I breathe in the want of you”?
“Yes” you replied, while turning down the glow
Of the red numbers on the clock
“I know the cost of this secret” and winked a smile
That promised nothing but friendship….
Smiling, I wondered, where we’d be 25 years from now
You said, you were a one-woman-network
As if reading my mind…
Your eyes returning light
I tried to speak
You placed your finger in the corner of my mouth
Tracing the word happy on my rough skin
I asked if you’d walk with me for a while
You smiled saying softly
“Some day, I may fan your mornings into a glow”

"Retrieving my life, like a swing partner"

I'll try not to steal this.

"morphining"...I love it when we take poetic license and invent a new word....I do it too seldom

“Some day, I may fan your mornings into a glow”

Great ending to this blush of new love write. Sometimes a last line comes to mind first and I wonder if that was the case here.

Enjoyed

You know LeeJ,
This was about as perfect and sweet a summer drive as any I have ever known.

Smiling at you.
Excellent.

you have a distinct style, taking snipits of life each with their own descriptive phrases..then you piece it to fit a picture of reality..that may be crude or ugly but its terribly sincere

As usual, struck speechless. There seemed to be one line that didn't fit...
but I didn't care.  The rest of it was simply
an afternoon with a prayer...

and He sure delivered!

Moments tender and delightfully personal, but told with reserve, a formality and respect from a time when these things were commonplace and lost now to behaviour intrusively forward...thank you for these beautiful frames Lee...
