A rose for Mary and a vision for me,
I see heaven’s waiting,
watching and waiting,
with silent smiles like fireflies
in wait
(uh-oh, and arm wrestling with MS),
to hopscotch tiles in the space between
my heart and yours - make history.

Maybe around the corner I’ll be your day dream
underneath a quiet smile
if we were without endless poetry
that like a gunfight at the OK Corral
before the government was being controlled
cut from the bottom our complacency.

You meant so much to me
before the creation of nothing
and the drifting apart
but don’t tell me
I haven’t got feelings to share
and don’t tell me
I don’t feel hurricanes
are rolling in front of me
in this 14th dream.

Just you, your face,
as the flowers sing of morning
far from inner city sidewalks,
the bliss of a summer night’s kiss
falling shy but unrestrained
for a friendly chat
my prayer
but love in the first degree
like a bee sting for painted ladies
behind a mask
and my life’s tapestry
consumed by your smile
called sunshine
and the touch of you.

You didn’t see a painting
of vibrant colour like the sun and the moon,
keepers of the flame,
grant me serenity amidst the legends,
seasoned, swirling, turning towards the ending
but if you believe in fairies, parallels,
living spice/life’s seasons,
and the poetic purr of the now famous Balladeer,
you might say, “Thank you, Nancy”
simply to feel
the spirited movement
of autumn cascading
and the tossing of stones.
Small crimes for the season
the latest war
and an autumn in New York
like riding waves and shark attacks
and moments forgot, names forgotten,
weightless in a chilled silence.

It’s inevitable though to be alone
and in limbo when to thee I give
over all the rest
the edge of night,
autumns first light,
and soon love’s music,
but the black walnut tree and me
are survivors and the branding of me
as an October woman and unpredictable
leaves on my doorstep pigeon food
fresh from the oven within
like a missile …
and I feel cursed.

Please tutor me how to soap
and not become wet and weathered
in the gravity of child’s play
that like a fine whisk of fresh autumn
and tree talk in the garden of love
brings on a woman’s tears
upon nights such as this.

Should I be happy facing my problems
and what Nancy did today
or offer these humble words of rhyme
in a love letter to Blue
like superman
in the shadow of the wind
would find common ground
behind my smile?

It’s no use counting on the seasons,
the solider of hope, or survival instincts
when living through romantic comedies
because real monsters
and other garden conversations
with the smile of a child
sometimes on the grassy knoll
on the way down to the next open door
say, “I don’t want to hold you back”
but it’s just for show
and they bring in the wind
and bricks of change
as a pseudo saviour
of perfection’s plan.

Storms won’t ask
to feel the warmth of the sun
if you believe they always blame the flowers
when grandma poet’s joy overflows
and the perfect rhyme, the sacred fire,
restless between the because
and perplexed by Windex,
too pooped to play anymore.

I didn’t want sad goodbyes
or illusions of the truth
but the right thing
and someone to die for
beneath the veil lingering
like sticky buns
in the storm of the heart.

Not my time to know the sky
and the sideways philosophy of love
but maybe some June gloom
brought by the Navajo winds
will wrap around oldies but goodies
like blue-eyed blooms
and this poet called me
tender feelings of the heart
and hope anew
until death comes again.

Brilliant -
