Who Am I To Complain

today before first light
I start a fire
in the darkness
I find reflection
and things go well
so who am I, to complain
it’s funny how things swirl
time, smoke, water, and my life
in the relevance of time
darkness seems to be the longest
I ache through every minute of it
days find me paced fast freely
with responsibilities I have taken on
yet night finds no arms in reach
there are choices I have made
and choices that have been made
for me without my permission
I don’t mind the quiet
it is the echoes that kill
in this liquid pool of darkness
when the first drips hit the skin
changing me to a tiny circle
then another larger than the last
until I am rippled
to the edge

just some words cut out
from the diary of my heart

The sun finally broke through
into this gloomy place I
call home.

Time and time again I wonder
what the hell am I
doing here.

Silence is my only answer—
If walls could talk what
would they tell me—

Once I sheltered Ambassadors
from different nations—
they were satisfied—
Why not me--??

I am from OZ
No one can follow
only swallow things I have to say—

Back over the rainbow I shall go
till another rainy day.

Who am I?  Alice or the Pinball Wizard.

Helen, those lines really touch.  I too, know of the choices that were made for me by another that did not have my best interest at heart, just their own needs...

That ripple is from within
      to the "outer" you ...

... your words carry yourself back to your center,
              never lost, never broken.

an undertow of remarkable emotions ...

I find warmth within your fire!

Lovely writing, Lady.

Ripples...One ripple disturbs the peace though, doesn't it? Sometimes it goes on for days.

enjoyed, although I may not have gotten out of it what you expected...I still got something, and I love those sort of words.

What a very moving poem, this line especially evokes so much in so many ways, so many truths poignantly told....Thank you ~P

h

I'll say it again . . .
I love your last lines!

(Does this mean that you are back in the habit?  Hope so.)
