The Guardian

Perched upon the black timber
She watches over her young.
Not yet capped in ivory
They beckon her tend and
protect them.

At the witching hour she waits,
scanning the tree tops and forest floor,
defending her young…her weak.
Ready to strike…to lash out
…in the darkness,
without fear or hesitation.

Purposed in the defense of
the hungry and of the innocent.
Nary she sleeps a moment in abandon
so that her young may find peace
under cover of a cocked wing.

Not so easily does the hunter prey
upon the young and the innocent
warmed by a mother’s breast and
held by a mother’s eyes.

Morning stirs her rested ones
deep in the fold of her shielding wing.
She lifts upon the embattled wind
with wings outstretched in defiance
of the dangers lurking far below.

Found, the prey purposed in
Hunting the young, the innocent,
The tired, and the weak,
is lifted into the trees
within the grasp of
her golden talon.

Over these snow capped majesties
she soars effortlessly while
while her fierce cries of liberty
foray the forest floor
and embrace her black timber home.

Her young await, unswayed by
the terror of evening hunts.
Nay she has ever let hunger
linger or her promise of tomorrow
burn with black timber towers
stripped of their majesty.

She keeps watch this very night
as you slumber in the comfort
of your embracing beds under
her cocked wing of freedom.

Hello Kevin...fine write here. Reminded me of home. Here in Iowa one of my biggest complaints is there are no real forested areas. Oh there are some small timbre groths...but not like in Canada where I was born. Love this piece my friend.

You write her nobility and valor well - I love to go and watch the eagles come in the early winter, or the osprey in the late spring, as they sore over the lakeside and nest in the trees - enjoyed this muchly-

Kevo,
This truly beautiful in every sense of the word.
Growing up in the country one sees more beauty than those living in cities with their big buildings.
Thank-you for the smile.

Within this heart you'll find love
