Between the Lines

0 posted 2004-11-16 09:28 AM

I flush the feelings
that seem to overwhelm the light
of each day, remembering each touch
that seems years away, fragments planted
and tucked into the past, waiting
to break the silence of loneliness
that dresses me in shadows.

There is a you that tames the ache
that cuts into the mind and takes me
where I wish to be, even if temporary.
I go there for familiarity because failing
alters my every move and if only
I can hold onto something, maybe
what lies beneath, will surface once again.

I recall childlike laughter, swinging
in the park-like surroundings,
the air feeling me and the unbalanced
cross of a stream and I wish for the knowledge
I have today to have been back when.

To have shared the uneven happiness,
the ups and downs of life's processes
in the arms of another who could whisper
caring thoughts and tell me without regret
that everything will make sense one day.

Lack of sleep possesses me, scented waters call
and the unchangeable remains.

"waiting
to break the silence of loneliness
that dresses me in shadows."

Your poem drew me in, but this verse is its center, and, it frames the picture you have painted here.

Such a compelling read.
