All it takes is a date
to break a fast while it lasts
all it takes is determination
to break a habit with consternation
a fast lasts as long as one abstains
from toxins to clog their veins
better to go without vain treats
if its the other hemisphere one seeks.

but when east collides with west
and the two hemispheres can never meet
to say it's the other side you eternally seek
puts you in the category of the forever meek;
hated for lack of affluence from dominant tribe
hated for the label that affluence prescribes
on clearer accounts it's not well being that's despised
but the means it's enforced that makes the civilized hide.
the fast is broken by both the refined and crude
determined order has gone awry by corrupted moods.

We choose our comfort level - some of us need "just this" and others "more of" - and when you mix the two beasts in one house, such wars...

Our earth is just such one house....

some start out with so little, and blame others for having no more...

some start out with even less, and rise above...

such a mixed lot, we are.

An excellent write, Martin, but then, I am never disappointed, ever, when reading your works.  I do so appreciate it when you kick my mind into reality, softly, but surely.

Some would have even been content for less
they governed a lot discontent at second best
