Knowingly, they pissed in the worlds cisterns,
Poisoning what sustains,
Sending it towards eternity-eternally
Dirty, insulting the marriage
Of man and earth, hiding forehead A's
Behind thick cosmetic folders,
Carried by hedonistic lawyers.

But their morning-after came
And the payment for sins of submission
Stood out of reach of penance;
No priest could atone...Too late!
Genuflection could not rebate
The cost of their transgressions.

In still air, the smoke of what burned
Lingered, risen from swills of salt
And beds of sulfur,
Where dead and dieing flowers laid.

There was no mirror reflection,
On a sky bereft of birds; smiles
Lined no clouds with happy faces,
Of seven, unborn, generations.

Everything alive, and those to be
Were dead, neglected or aborted;
Paid up wages, earned by sins
Of legal lust, and human greed.

Ford, such a stark write, but knowing
that you look out for all, it does not
surprise me that this hurt so much...

and I can only imagine what you were
subjected to, in order to write it so clearly.

Karilea
Written after close study of Bushes environmental policy plans, and looking over the sins that he has commited against the earth in his first term...this is what I was subjected to, and is the insperation of this poem....

Being a "reality poet" for the most part.. such as Mark Van Doren spoke of Sandburg being, in an introduction of one of Carl's books..(In no way am I comparing myself to that master)
..Makes insist, that I write of all aspects of life as I see it...be it "lovely, terrible, sensible or grotesque" in real terms or metaphor...

Thank you for reading and your reply..

The real shame lies in the fact that it takes the decisions of few to result in huge impact upon the world. Very well done Ford.  Hugs for this...

I prefer the reality approach as well and I enjoy yours, although I would have preferred not to think about this this morning (I have to deal with it all week).
There should be a lot more writing about this, whether it helps or not.

Ah Ice - would that all should know the earth and the gifts she bears when given tender care and respect - would that we could remember her in our asphalt laden days - I have a very old poem I shall have to dig out and post - not the best but it reveals my heart and the touch the earth has upon it -

Enjoyed this muchly -

Susan
