Moved from a shack to a barn

0 posted 2004-11-12 11:52 PM

How odd to think this way
That many millions of years ago
tiny inarticulate creatures
lived, swarming, in the oceans

And that some of them
the most ambitious, would crawl
gasping, onto land
to become, one far-flung day

great and monstrous beauties
Becoming, much, much later
our furred and feathered forbearers
and finally, perhaps not lastly, “us”

Leaving the rest to dwell in primal soup
living unchanged and immutable
then dying soulless and uncounted
turned to stone in Time’s gristmill

How very odd indeed, to think
that untold generations of simple life
reproduced, ate, were eaten, chased,
were chased, escaped or didn’t

Only to be washed up on a beach
at the base of a cliff, where
in 1984, a girl in a white bikini
danced barefoot on their bones

Oh, I love the ending of this - great concept upon which to ponder, even if I am an alien from another planet and we settled this blue orb thousands of years ago - the whole evolution thing being a great conspiracy to delude current day man into forgetting us - hehe

(reminds me of the kid who asked why apes were still apes, tho)

we'll talk, bro.

But surely your evolution is revolution.

Speaking as a fossil, it has been a long time since anyone in a bikini has danced on my bones.  *grin*
