He stood silent against the corner’s shadow,
knowing that she had slipped into the darkness.
Her shadow lingering, as did her perfume,
soft, mysterious...so alluring.

A quarter waited to dial a number scribbled
on a bar’s napkin.  His fingers, fumbling
the blush of number, feeling the effort
hollow, the pit of his gut saying she won’t.

The brisk winds of change shivered his
shoulders, shrinking further into the
warmth of a coat well past it’s prime.
Shoes shuffling softly, a tune now
forgotten playing in the back of his
mind.

He never knew her full name, only her
smile and eyes that pierced his soul
and spoke hesitantly back at him.
And now, as the mist beaded a hand,
he hummed a few bars...letting her
slip slowly away....thinking Johnnie..
But not with a y....

There's that mood - that Bogie feel - that's what it reminds me of - the old time movies that had such great atmosphere - you've a way of painting the picture - I love it's feel-
