.
.
..
.

druid,
snapshot scattered
assemblies for manger scenes,
silent communal awakening

unbogged, bagged,
freeze-framed stoics

priestly pickets,
unstruck missiles

“A madman's epistles are no gospels”*
.
.
.
.
   .
.
.
.

Numb,
unnumbered ,
postulant
petrified prairie dogs

silhouette howlers,
mute thumbs,

swamp besieged sandcastles,
uncloistered seals,
thalidomide theologians
abbots, abbess of the air
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

Emigrants to less density,
from the dig through the crawl,
from the swim to the fly
the lighter,
the less.
freedom is death

pausing at the curb
waiting for a light change
at eternity and now
.
.
.

.
.
.
.
The women of the village
descend from the burial,
grief engulfed,
in a perpetual pause,
Pompeii of the pious

pillars of salt
who had no way to turn
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
31 years,
the pilgrimage of
600,000 to Watkins Glen

10 abreast
ribbon beyond the horizon
of tie-dye, hair, skin, color,
coolers and peace
for miles
sweet, easy peace

the Grateful Dead,
the Band, Allman Brothers

50 yards down the
sloping amphitheatre
a score of bikers,
colors stitched to smelly
Levi jackets, try to intimidate
those around them

A slow crescendo of
laughter takes hold
of throngs, more and more
pointing
at the bikers

this would be no Altamont

You have to laugh at the devil

"swamp besieged sandcastles,

I only saw the first picture, but I've maneuvered a canoe once or twice through those knees in Florida. LOL, nice descriptions.
And Altamont, yes, swaying to the Dead. I never made it to the Glen
So much imagery, stirring up so many memories.

YAY, all the pictures have arrived! LOL

Richard, your mind would be a terrible thing to waste ~ so keep using it and I will continue to enjoy the fruits of its poetic and photographic efforts!

Sending you a great big hug,

Richard, I had to come back to this, to say, I do read another much deeper layer within this write, knowing it's not about cypress knees. (didn't want you to think I'd fallen over those knees without really seeing them)

I'm glad this came back up.  I had read it twice, now a third time, and your imagination with this one...well...

it leaves me fairly speechless.

I read this with so much surprise and wonder, Richard.

Cypress knees are one of my favorite things in the world, and it truly tickles me that someone else hears the stories that they tell.

This is magickal and layered and just such a delicious read of layers.

Thank you for this one. I feel like I just met some long lost kinfolk in the reading.

I'm keeping this one m'friend.

Okay, I loved the imagery of your poem but what the heck is a cypress knee from?  We sure don't have them on our cypress trees that's for sure, so guess I will just have to go find out.  That is quite the photo by the way.

Okay went and found them - wow!

Maybe they give off a gas . . .
I think you were inhaling something.
Enjoyed the visions.

Cpat, thanks for reading.

Midnitesun, Canoeing would be a good thing right now. Actually the title was meant to be ‘Cypress knees, A madman's epistles’ but I erred when loading it.

Linda, thanks for your kindness. Both are a bit out of focus lately.

Martie, Appreciate it.

passing shadows, thanks for the kind comment.

Sunshine, I may have tried to force too many ideas into the post-reflections of a 5 hour meandering through the swamps and not been patient enough to work it smooth.

serenity blaze, I was hoping you’d stumble on these. It’s difficult to not see past lives in the monkish forms, featureless faces of these frozen ghosts. And like man they seem to take on tribal personas, woeful, huddled families. I can’t separate them from something spiritual and a fore shadowing. Doubtless recent politics and the morality façade influenced this sketch of a man increasingly seeing spirituality’s proper place only in nature.

Krawdad, They are visions. Glad you enjoyed

Mysteria , appreciate the link. I age and need to get a tripod to steady my images. The little bitty profile photos don’t leave much room for picture let alone error. If I could I’d post this one where heaven seems to favor me…..
