My Grandmother's Psalm

Silken rays of the sun rain down
upon your face so sweetly calm.
Soft, gentle breezes whisper your name
as the autumn leaves echo your psalm.

The days have disappeared into years
and I have grown into a woman somehow;
Though just a girl when you left this world
I didn't realize the pain until now.

Taking for granted the days we spent
and the love you showered upon me.
I never realized one day it would end
and leave me only your memory.

Gone are the days we used to share
and the ones we had yet to come;
like the three great-grand daughters I've given you
and now there's a great-great one.

Thinking back on that cool November day
when we gently placed you in the earth;
wondering then if God even realized
just what, to me, you were worth.

I try to reflect and remember the days
though all they ever bring me is pain;
But your memories are all I have left
to hold you close to my heart again.

So many things were left unsaid
and not expected from a young girl;
But I want you to know "I love you grandma
and to me you were my world."

A very well expressed piece of yourself of
someone so very dear to you...I think they,
our grands were given to us that we might
have something extra special to look back
to from time to time...I know I do...and
I still think of him...often.

beautiful

there will surely come a time when the memories will bring you joy for having had the time you did have and for experiencing the love she inspired in you

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

There is a sweet and gentle softness in your loving words of devotion to your grandmother's memory. Beautifully written and a pleasure to read.

Naome...this is a beautiful memory
and hopefully one that has been passed on down
to your children and their children...

these are the poems of memories kept alive.
