I see the Huggermugger
wispy grey against the wall
I don’t like the looks of him
I don’t like him at all

He seeks out the darkness
in my mind when I’m asleep
He reads all my imaginings
there’s not a secret I can keep!

He appears here at dusk
when the light begins to fade
I see him first as shadow
standing behind the window shade

He lurks in the background
taunting me with his leer
The Huggermugger relishes
my every fright and fear

I pull the covers up at night
to hide my face and head
I know the Huggermugger waits
hoping I’ll soon be dead

Entering my body as I sleep
he searches my soul for inspiration
sucking words from me then
with devilish dedication

The Huggermugger steals away
when sunlight wakes the day
but he’ll be back when sunlight fails
much to my dismay

Today my boss asked me if I knew what a huggermugger was - I had to get out a dictionary for the answer. This was the result of that bit of inspiration!

Thanks for reading!

I love this word "huggermugger", lol.  Much enjoyed your poetic description behind this Sharon. I'm glad you looked it up, lol.

Best wishes,
/Kit
