A reincarnated lawyer, now lives in a drawer,
Paper makes his resting bed
Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John
Carefully and meticulously shred
For him to lazily lay the day upon.

Halls of an abandoned home, are now his to roam,
Shattered glass in the windows
The steady drip from a cracked sink
The remnants of human sorrows
In their sadness he does slink

He roams the park after the full of dark,
From the sewers and drains
To the swings where children play
Down dirty alleys and lanes
Through garbage where it lays.

He rushes to pale cries where a child lies
In fever, sweat, and vomit
He sneaks into the room with care
Then quietly feeds upon it
As the needled mother just stares

Inside the shallow walls he hears the helpless calls
Of people that wallow so helpless
Unwilling or perhaps unable to leave
Stuck there pained in the darkness
Unknowing joy they can just grieve.

In his nest awaits the light to roam the next night
To find more for him to eat
In his rotting pestilence
Now with paws not tired feet,
No flowery words but silence.

He dreams of his life before which is now no more,
Still he feeds on the meek,
The discarded of polite society,
And if they are unwashed and reek
They no longer bothers his sensitivity

Gloom

This is a work of fiction, and is about no particular person.  I regret any negativity in the association of lawyers and rats, I’m sure the rats don’t deserve it.

Vivid imagery - excellent write.

I never met a rat I didn't like! ~ Mind you, I've never met a rat!

Now lawyers, that's a whole other story! My boyfriend has three law degrees and he's a pussycat. Although rats are afraid of him ~ I'm not!

Enjoyed your story poem!

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those

Thank you, all,

As for cheese and assistants
Nothing is ever constant
And I’d not infer too much against
A profession to cause angst
As every rat in not incarnate
Every lawyer suffers not that fate
As with all things
It’s the inner soul that brings
Peace or not
And if we suffer or rot.
