Tried the ladder, but could climb only so
Through the window, next direction to go
As I scanned the surroundings began to remove
The shingles that crumbled, could do it, could prove

Even though he insisted, not able to, I
At my age and woman, those shingles did fly

I did it, on porch roof, pulled nail after nail
Through spasms from hips and the bend ache, detail
With fingertips sore, from mishammering touch
My jean seat turned black from the tar, sitting much.

Today's wind, a bit strong, down below lay remains
Need to pick up the mess, won't hear me complain
But the front is now done and I'm ready to place
The new roofing shingles, tar paper as base

One more thing from this weekend, that passed much too fast
I had a flat tire on dark road, no one passed
Thankful for cell phone and friends rescuing me
And the warmth of a soak, to relax, "what will be."

WOW Maureen....sounds as though you had one heck of a weekend indeed!
Sorry I can't help you with the roofing..
I have an awful fear of heights.
Hugs YOU!

Now while the leaves still dance on the wind
While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?
Again..and again.

LOL, I love the spirit of this! I think I'd rather do the tire and leave the roof job to someone else. I say this, cuz I've been on a roof before.

I admire how you took action and tackled a rather harrowing roofing task! It shows that whenever you are faced with a problem ~ you will conquer it! ~ or find a way around it! Cell phones ~ and friends! ~ can certainly be a godsend!

Next weekend, may you be able to kick back and relax! You deserve it!

Do you know how much I admire
all that you go through, and
come out smiling on the other end?

Start believing
in who I believe in!

Rebuilding can be strenuous, but so rewarding and refreshing when it’s done.
Enjoyed this write.

Nancy, I have a fear of heights too...but I just sit down on the job   and as long as I can climb out one of my windows I am ok...it's that ladder climb I can't do.

Kacy, well the tires were done...the roof is one of those things that as long as I start it...maybe someone will feel sorry enough for me and will finish it...wishful thinking!!!  And it is the lower roof...you won't see me on the top ever!

Linda, it becomes necessary to do things yourself, sometimes...hopefully I will never have to do this again once the entire porch roof is done...
Relax? What's that????

Karilea...I may smile half the time..the other half is filled with tears asking myself why it is I have to even be doing this myself.

(eventually going to get  your doll done...it is on my "agenda")

myheart, I am a crazy woman as most at the local hardware store are deciding...crazy either for doing this myself or for whom I am still attached to for now.

JL, definitely rewarding but not till it's completed. Today or tomorrow are tar papering day ( trying to decide if my body needs a day's break)

LeeJ, the bubble bath is the best part of my day

Ericc, thank you

Thank you all, for your kind remarks

Maureen
