Into Forgetfulness Corkscrew Remembrance

Into obliviousness let whorl ache.
Wickedness pulls at me, granulates self
into a fake helix of emotion.
Mine eyes are a hole, a singularity
in space/time where continuance slows at
the event horizon. Evensong daubs
me in ebony, costumes me in the
tincture of ending. I am one with the
universe although a pariah, a
derelict sheering from literate society.
Down an indistinct back street you might
perchance come upon me, second box to the right.
The transient draws obscurity about
shoulders like a blanket. Cloaked against the
sightless, “quick-look,” we dodder through your
inner city unremembered. Notwithstanding
that here we are…lying in doorways,
hunkered upon curbs. You footstep over us,
infinitely deft at looking the other way.
Ours is not your dilemma.
Harden hearts,
cinch purse strings as you motor your BMW’s
and Volvo’s towards suburbia. It
matters not; we did not see you either.
We are the irreclaimable, the
despondent riffraff of enlightenment.
Hitherto we turn our backs on a social
milieu which has turned its back on us.
Quietude is found at the bottom of
a bottle, each libation pulling us
that much closer to the objective we
chase. No longer doth appropriateness wed
itself to our vocabulary; we
are ever ready with the, “Hey buddy,
can you spare a dollar.” Near-sightedness
impedes not as you flounder in pocket
for the bank note that will emancipate
you from our gaze. “Thank-you, and God bless.”
Into forgetfulness corkscrew remembrance
for I’d forget his touch rather than lurch
through this fallacy not of my making.
I am the young girl crying in the
darkness, the screech of hurt, and he was my
father. Into forgetfulness corkscrew this pain.

Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history!

Thank-you for stopping and reading this Dixie. Just a piece pulled out of the darkness of childhood. My biological father was an alcoholic. He use to beat us, scream, threaten... You know how it is. Mom finally gave him the boot when I was in Kindergarten. She remarried the greatest mam in the world...someone I am proud to call father...but today I write of old memories.

Hello Love,
This is very sad. It says many things.
I give you lots of hugs.

every line full of power, in fact the word "power" seems much too weak, which may be the way you left me with that last line

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

I'm hearing love and compassion
walking with your fear and pain.
Perhaps forgiveness with forgetfulness?
This is a telling write of great strength you hold.
I'm saving it.

I am so glad to read your response to Dixie -that you were blessed with a true father figure - I've seen this with my own Sister's children -

This entire peace just about had me in tears - so poignant are your words - a sorrow indeed - one that even I find it difficult to look at - but one must look in order to see the problem and help with the change -

Excellent work, Kevin-

Kevin

I think it is good to write about the pain of the past...it helps us understand and forgive.  My best to you!

Big K

A sobering write.  Yet, brilliantly written nontheless.  I have been so busy as of late it's been really tough to get in but I am trying to change that.  It was great to find this post.  It touched me deeply as I also came from a child hood bedecked in violence.  You writing is in a class by itself.  It is inspiring and thought provoking.  Your style is always a step out of the ordinary and pushes me to grow in my own writing.  Same name.  Same endeavor.  To write.  To touch.  To share.  My hat is off to you tonight, friend.

Cloaked against the
sightless, “quick-look,” we dodder through your inner city unremembered.

And you reminded us all not to forget.  Not to stop helping if we can - or those who can. I volunteered once at an inner city church - and met wonderful people - who were messed up - and wonderful.  Because we're more than just what we do. And we includes the poor and the rich.  Hugs my friend.
